The House of Representatives yesterday invited the Director General of
the National Sports Commission (NSC) Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye over
several queries raised against the sports regulatory body by the
Auditor General of the Federation,AGF amounting to over N3.085 billion
in the 2010 financial year. The DG, a former member of the House was billed to appear before
the Committee on Wednesday to defend the queries after several
invitations but he sent a team led by Mallam Mustapha Mohammed, a
Director in the Commission which the Committee turned back and insisted
on the physical appearance of the DG.The invitation was sent by the House Committee on Public Accounts Hon. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.
He ruled that the Director was not competent to defend the queries adding that it was in the same manner that officials of the Commission shielded a former DG of the Commission from honouring several invitations extended to him before his tenure expired.
He further said that the Committee would not allow that to happen again.
